Primary objective
Assist with the development of policies and advice to Government, key client groups and the public on the sustainable
management of aquatic resources in the NT.
Context statement
This position is aimed at a person with experience in natural resource management, including relevant postgraduate studies,
preferably with a focus on fisheries or aquatic environments. The role supports various fisheries management projects and
programs. The role sits within the Wild Harvest Fisheries unit and works as part of a multidisciplinary team comprising
fisheries managers, research scientists, technical and data service officers within the Fisheries Division.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Support the development and implementation of policies and frameworks to ensure the sustainable use of the Northern
Territory's fish and aquatic resources.
2. Manage project activities ensuring outcomes align with legislative, departmental and government objectives.
3. Collect, organise, and analyse information to assist in providing evidence-based advice.
4. Prepare accurate and well-structured reports and correspondence to support senior staff and project delivery.
5. Engage with stakeholders, including industry, the community, and Indigenous groups, to support project and policy
outcomes.
6. Participate in team planning, learning, and knowledge-sharing activities to contribute to a positive and productive work
environment.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience assisting with project coordination tasks, including organising activities, tracking progress, and providing
support to ensure timely completion of work.
2. Ability to analyse information and apply sound judgement to support the development of policies, strategies or legislation.
1. Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with team members and stakeholders to support project
delivery.
4. Good written communication skills, with the ability to prepare accurate and well-presented documents and
correspondence.
5. Ability to manage workloads under supervision and contribute effectively to team priorities.
Desirable
1. Degree in science, natural resource management or agribusiness from a recognised tertiary institution.
2. Experience in fisheries management or a similar natural resource management field.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Project management experience, including developing project plans, coordinating activities, monitoring and evaluating
progress, resolving issues, and delivering results within agreed timeframes.
2. Demonstrated analytical skills, with experience gathering and assessing information to support the development of
policies, strategies, or legislation.
3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders to support the delivery of projects or programs.
4. Well-developed written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and structured documents such as reports,
briefings, and correspondence.
5. Demonstrated ability to work independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively as part of a team to achieve shared
goals.
