Laurel House is a leading provider of trauma-informed therapeutic services to victim-survivors of sexual assault and individuals impacted by harmful sexual behaviours in northern Tasmania.
Our organisation delivers vital, confidential, client-focused support through our centres in Launceston, Devonport, and Burnie, as well as outreach services across the region. We also provide the PAST (Prevention, Assessment, Support and Treatment) Program for children and young people who have displayed harmful sexual behaviours.
We work closely with the Tasmanian Government and are proud to lead the northern Arch multidisciplinary centre for victim-survivors of sexual harm. Our team advocates for individual and systemic change to create a safer, more supportive community for those affected by sexual harm.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Counsellor to join our team and provide high-quality, trauma-informed counselling to victim-survivors of sexual violence and individuals impacted by harmful sexual behaviours.

Key Responsibilities:
* Provide direct counselling to children, young people, and adults who have experienced sexual harm, as well as their non-offending family members and caregivers.
* Deliver therapeutic interventions in accordance with best-practice trauma-informed approaches.
* Conduct risk and needs assessments to tailor support plans that enhance client wellbeing.
* Work collaboratively with external agencies, including police, medical professionals, and community organisations, to provide holistic support.
* Facilitate community education and training programs to improve awareness and prevention of sexual violence.
* Maintain accurate and confidential case notes and reports in line with legal and ethical standards.
About You
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Counsellor who will bring a passion for supporting individuals impacted by sexual violence.
Key Requirements:
* Hold a relevant qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or a related field.
* Demonstrated experience providing trauma-informed counselling to individuals impacted by sexual violence or other complex trauma.
* Deep understanding of the impacts of sexual violence and best-practice therapeutic interventions.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide empathetic, client-centred support.
* Commitment to working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and with external agencies.
* Experience facilitating group programs or community education initiatives (desirable).
* Eligibility for membership with a relevant professional body (e.g., AASW, PACFA, ACA, or APHRA).
* Current Working with Vulnerable People Registration and National Police Check (or willing to obtain).
This is a full-time or part-time opportunity based in Burnie, Devonport, or Launceston, with outreach responsibilities across Northern and North-West Tasmania.
