Our state government client is seeking an experienced Data architect. They are implementing a multi-year Digital Modernisation Strategy. As Principal Data Engineer, you will be the expert authority on all data related discovery, design, development and go-live matters. Working with the Principal Program Manager, Principal Engineers and Principal Product Managers, this role will enable successful legacy system decommissioning and transition to a new flagship digital platform (CRM / BPM). You will take full initiative to partner with business and other technical stakeholder to ensure program objectives are met. This critical and exciting role will also take on data junior resource management.
Role & Responsibilities
Data system design & development: Lead design, development and documentation for platform data services, from initial concept through to production, ensuring testing and seamless integration. Resolve technical issues, identify opportunities for process improvement and advise on best data practices.
Data governance: Manage data assets to ensure they comply with established data governance and architectural standards. Collaborate with other accountable agency data leads accordingly.
Stakeholder communication: Act as the primary data subject matter expert among the delivery team with operational and executive stakeholders. Collaborate with and oversee vendor counterparts. Communicate architectural / data model trade-offs, and technical direction clearly and effectively.
Transition & decommissioning: Support flexible go-live planning. Create, oversee and support data migration, and legacy system transition to ensure technical readiness and compliance.
Hypercare & run state: Help design and establish the hypercare and long-term support model for data maintenance, ensuring operational readiness, service continuity, and clear ownership post go-live.
Required skills
A strong foundation in data engineering concepts, including data modelling, database design, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, and data warehousing.
Experience in large scale legacy technology data migrations, including new cloud platform and application builds.
Ability to manage multiple deliverables at the same time and oversee junior data team members as part of a multi-project team structure.
Prefer experience with, or ability to adapt to NSW Government practices and standards.
Day rate: $1165 + super
Location: Parramatta
