ALTSA (Analytical Laboratories and Technical Services Australia) has returned the former CSIRO facility at Merbein South near Mildura Victoria to its former glory, with the aim of providing a world class laboratory analysis services for the agriculture and environmental sectors across Australia using the latest state-of-the-art technology.
ALTSA: Soil and Plant Laboratory
Due to growing demand for ALTSA's services, an exciting and challenging science opportunity has become available. Our team of professional scientists requires the support of a Laboratory Technician to join our Merbein South facility.
Reporting to the Soil and Plant Laboratory Manager, your duties would include but not be limited to:
* Sample preparation: labelling, sorting, sub-sampling, oven drying and pulverising.
* Test set-up: sample weighing, preparing/adding test chemicals, arranging sample racks for automated instrumentation.
* Bench-top tests on soil and water samples.
* Providing test results within customers' expected turnaround times.
* Calibration of equipment and maintaining related records.
* Maintenance on instruments under supervision and recording all related issues.
* Maintain consumables inventory and perform housekeeping tasks.

* The ability to manage your time effectively, identify and solve problems, prioritise tasks and workload.
* General computer skills.
* Excellent attention to detail and good communication skills.
* The ability to work reliably with minimal supervision and in a team environment.
Well regarded:
* Prior experience in a laboratory, preferably in a commercial laboratory environment.
* Prior experience in the agricultural or horticultural industries.
* Wet chemistry lab experience.
* ICP experience.
* Attainment of a relevant science degree or TAFE laboratory certificate.
* Familiarity with NATA ISO17025 requirements.
Remuneration will be negotiated with the successful candidate based on experience and qualifications.
