Primary objective

Provide high level efficient and effective advice and day to day delivery of office management services to the Head of Boarding

and staff of the Nhulunbuy Boarding facility including managing student enrolment, travel, liaison and supervision services,

community and government liaison and information management.

Context statement

Nhulunbuy High School is a small remote secondary school that caters for students in Years 7 to 12. Within its comprehensive

structure, there is a Middle Years and Senior Years school, with a current student population of 315, of whom approximately 40%

are Indigenous. In 2017, a purpose-built Boarding facility opened for Indigenous students from remote communities across the

Northern Territory. The school has approximately 60 staff which includes teachers, administration, and support staff.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide complex travel services for staff students and families including arranging and booking remote travel, completing

finance processes, managing reimbursement processes through Abstudy and communicating with staff, students and families

travelling.

1. Liaise effectively with all levels of staff within the school, external agencies, and outside organisations in managing student

appointments and attendance including arranging appointment times, communicating details, managing changes, undertaking

student supervision and following up truancy and other matters.

1. Provide student support services including management of student enrolment and data management, Centrelink information

travelling to communities to liaise with students, present to community, support students and families and provide student

supervision whilst travelling.

1. Provide administrative services to the Head of Boarding including preparing and presenting correspondence, managing

information and records and providing reports.

1. Undertake other duties as required by the Principal, Head of Boarding and/ or Business Manager.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Proven effective executive administration skills, including management of complex remote travel and stakeholder

communication and management, knowledge of Abstudy policies and procedures, office, finance and information management.

2. Demonstrated high-level interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to interact effectively

with people from diverse cultures and effectively engage with students and their families in a culturally appropriate way.

1. Proven ability to participate as part of a team and work cooperatively with senior management, staff members and peers in

achieving school objectives relating to enrolments and operations and team facilitation.

4. Demonstrated organisational skills of a high order, including an ability to work under pressure and complete tasks within

required timeframes, work independently and flexibly, exercise initiative and high-level attention to detail.

5. Proven ability to utilise a range of computer programs to process travel activities, produce reports, correspondence and

presentations and manage information.

Further information

The successful applicant will be required to hold a current Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) notice and travel regularly

to remote communities to assist students and families with enrolment processes and provide information to communities.
