The City and Environment Directorate is seeking an experienced leader to fill the position of Executive Group Manager, Transport Canberra for a period of five years. This process will also be used to develop an order of merit for the following twelve months to fill any vacancy in this role during this time.
The Executive Group Manager, Transport Canberra is a critical role responsible for management of the ACT Government's bus public transportation operations and contract management of Light Rail service operator CMET. The role has leadership of around 1000 staff employed in frontline operational and customer service roles, including staff employed at bus depots and workshops. The Executive Group Manager, Transport Canberra is also a critical member of the Transport Canberra team which is progressing a range of high-profile initiatives to deliver Canberra's public transportation strategy. These include the following Government priorities; planning for the future stages of light rail, implementation of the ACT Zero Emissions Transition Plan; ensuring recruitment of sufficient bus drivers and transport officers to promote a safe public transport network; and optimising network efficiency to include increasing rapid routes and services.
The role requires high level of leadership and communication skills and a proven capacity to work collaboratively, lead engagement activities and provide strong representation for the Division and Directorate by identifying and realising the changing needs of community and government. Your skills in people management and program delivery will be supported by a strong and collaborative senior management team which oversees the direction and delivery of government priorities.
Remuneration: The position attracts a remuneration package ranging from $377,954 - $389,635 depending on current superannuation arrangements of the successful applicant. This includes a cash component of $333,737.
Contract: The successful applicant will be engaged under a performance-based long-term contract for a period of up to five years. Prospective applicants should be aware that long-term engagements are tabled in the ACT Legislative Assembly.

City and Environment Directorate was established on the 1 July 2025. This new directorate is an amalgamation of positions previously advertised under Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate and Transport Canberra and City Services Directorate.
