About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Security Applications & Systems Engineer to join a specialised Electronic Security Systems (ESS) Operations team within a Federal Government environment.
This is a critical role supporting the safety and security of a high-profile national facility by ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of mission-critical systems underpinning physical security capabilities.
You will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing ICT applications, infrastructure, and integrations across a complex, high-availability environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, deploy, maintain and support mission-critical systems including PSIM, EACS, CCTV/VMS, and intercom platforms
* Provide proactive and reactive support for 24x7 operational environments
* Manage system upgrades, patching, firmware updates, and configuration changes
* Support multi-tier application architectures and system integrations (APIs, event-driven, vendor-based)
* Maintain hardware-to-software connectivity for field and edge devices
* Administer databases (backup, recovery, replication, performance tuning, capacity planning)
* Monitor systems using enterprise tools, analyse logs, and resolve incidents
* Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventative measures
* Ensure systems meet security, audit, and compliance requirements
* Maintain high-quality technical documentation and provide technical advice
📞 Participation in an on-call roster (every 4–6 weeks) is required.

Essential Skills & Experience
* Tertiary qualifications in IT (or equivalent experience)
* Strong experience supporting mission-critical systems with high availability and resilience requirements
* Expertise across applications, databases, and infrastructure (OS, middleware, compute, storage)
* Experience in backup, recovery, patching, and performance optimisation
* Experience with or ability to quickly learn electronic security systems (PSIM, EACS, CCTV/VMS, Intercom)
* Strong systems integration experience (APIs, event-driven, near real-time interfaces)
* Experience integrating hardware and edge devices into enterprise systems
* Proven capability in monitoring, incident management, and root cause analysis
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
Desirable
* Experience in Federal Government or secure environments
* Exposure to operational technologies (OT) or physical security systems
