* Temporary full time until 30 June 2026
* Clerk Grade 9/10, Salary range $129,464pa - $142,665pa + super
* Location – Maitland preferred, however all DPIRD office locations will also be considered
* Internal EOI opportunity open to DPIRD employees

About the Role

Within this role you will provide technical and regulatory advice to the resources industry, government agencies and within DPIRD to ensure compliance with mining and planning related legislation, Departmental processes and Key Performance Indicators.

The role also provides advice to explorers, proponents of mining development projects, agencies and councils, including critical minerals and high-tech metals projects. Supporting the development and implementation of systems and processes that connect industry with the Department and other agencies, you will enable efficient and effective engagement across the NSW Government.

Key Responsibilities

* Assess and provide technical input on state-significant, infrastructure, and integrated development applications
* Evaluate exploration and mining proposals, including complex issues, to support informed decision-making
* Deliver expert advice to ensure assessments align with statutory requirements and departmental policies
* Support the Mine Development Panel process, enabling early-stage discussions with project proponents
* Contribute to policy, processes, and guidance materials to support legislative compliance
* Engage with stakeholders to promote best-practice systems and processes
* Analyse large datasets to produce accurate, actionable insights
* Coach and mentor team members to maintain high-quality assessments and advice

To be successful in this role you will have:

* Tertiary qualifications in planning, environmental science, geology or mining engineering and/or extensive experience at a senior level providing advice on planning or regulatory framework matters
* Knowledge of mining, planning and environment legislation and the NSW resources industry
* Expertise and experience in the evaluation of exploration and mining proposals and complex issues, providing analysis and informed advice to support effective decision making
* Advanced stakeholder and case management skills to contribute to ongoing consultations to support implementation of best practice systems and processes.
