The East Kimberley The East Kimberley is a stunning and sparsely populated area in the northeast corner of Western Australia and is known as one of the world's last wilderness frontiers. The Opportunity We are looking for an experienced and motivated Project Manager to join our Office of the CEO team in Kununurra. This exciting 12-month contract opportunity will see you lead the planning, coordination and delivery of major infrastructure and capital works projects across the Shire, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the end‐to‐end delivery of key infrastructure, civil and construction projects from planning through to completion;
  • Developing and maintaining project execution plans, schedules, budgets, cashflows, risk registers and governance frameworks;
  • Coordinating project design development and ensuring technical specifications meet relevant standards and legislative requirements;
  • Supervising contractors, consultants and project teams to ensure safe, compliant and high‐quality project outcomes;
  • Undertaking site inspections, monitoring project progress and resolving construction, compliance or delivery issues as they arise;
  • Managing procurement and tender processes, including preparation of scopes of work, specifications, evaluations and contract negotiations;
  • Administering contracts including progress claims, variations, extensions of time, practical completion and defects liability periods;
  • Monitoring project expenditure and financial performance, identifying risks and opportunities, and reporting on project budgets and milestones;
  • Preparing reports, grant applications, funding submissions and project updates for Council, management and funding agencies;
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with community groups, government agencies, First Nations stakeholders, elected members and other key stakeholders;
  • Representing the Shire at community meetings, consultation sessions and public forums as required;
  • Contributing to strategic planning, continuous improvement initiatives and long‐term infrastructure planning outcomes;
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, procurement requirements, environmental and heritage obligations, and organisational policies and procedures;
  • Promoting a safe workplace culture and actively participating in health, safety and wellbeing initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline;
  • Current unrestricted WA 'C' Class Driver's Licence and an acceptable National Police Clearance;
  • Demonstrated experience delivering major infrastructure or capital works projects;
  • Strong contract administration and procurement skills;
  • Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Proven experience managing project budgets, timelines and competing priorities;
  • Experience working in Local Government, regional or remote environments is highly regarded;
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Project Management and knowledge of project management and procurement systems are a plus.

Working Arrangements While it is strongly preferred that the incumbent of this position is fully residential, the Shire is also willing to consider hybrid working arrangements for the right candidate.

Salary and Benefits If successful, depending on your qualifications, skills and experience, you'll receive a competitive package between $195,000p/a – $245,000p/a with housing and vehicle provisions to be negotiated. This salary range is intended to be inclusive of applicable allowances, superannuation and non‐cash benefits.
