Wagga Wagga City Council is seeking an energetic, motivated and results orientated individual to join our Development Assessment and Building Certification Team in providing quality building assessment and certification services for our growing City.

Wagga Wagga City is the regional capital of the Riverina region of NSW with an urban population of approximately 60,000 people. The city is located midway (450kms each side) between Sydney and Melbourne and is well connected with excellent rail and road network. Wagga Wagga is an important agricultural, industrial, business, military, and transport hub and the ninth fastest growing inland city in Australia.

Council has one role available within the Development Assessment and Building Certification Team, being a Building Surveyor role at Grade 15 or Cadet Building Surveyor at Grade 12 as detailed below.

Building Surveyor

- Commencing salary of $91,592.28 gross per annum with the opportunity to progress to $109,910.84 + superannuation (12%)
- An additional annual Accreditation Allowance:

- Building Surveyor - unrestricted (A1 level accreditation) = $6,000

- Building Surveyor - restricted (all classes of buildings) (A2 level accreditation) = $4,000

- Building Surveyor - restricted (class 1 and 10 buildings) (A3 level accreditation) = $2,000

As the new Building Surveyor your responsibilities will include but not limit to:

- Conduct assessment of Development Applications (DA), Complying Development Certificates (CDC), and Construction Certificates (CC), Occupation Certificates, building information certificates and applications for movable dwellings, plumbing and drainage works, Swimming Pool Compliance Applications under the Swimming Pools (SP) Act 1992 and for all classes of buildings under s68 of the Local Government Act 1993.
- Conduct inspections of residential, commercial and industrial building/premises for component compliance, safety and building information certificates subject to Accreditation Level.
- Participate in meetings/consultations with relevant stakeholders including owners/builders; architects; engineers; and government agencies including on-site and provide professional advice on building and development compliance matters.
- Undertake compliance and enforcement functions in relation to building and development matters that affect the Local Government Area.
- Mentoring and development of the Development Assessment and Building Certification team members in consultation with the Building Certification Coordinator

To be successful in this role, you will:

- Hold tertiary qualifications relevant to the role (e.g. Diploma/Degree in Building Surveying);
- Hold or be eligible to hold a minimum accreditation level of Building Surveyor – Restricted (class 1 and 10 buildings)(A3 level accreditation) under the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018 Accreditation Scheme.
- Have demonstrated experience relevant to the role;
- Demonstrate preparedness and motivation to undertake the necessary actions to achieve accreditation as a Building Surveyor - either Restricted (A2) or Unrestricted (A1) under the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018;
- Hold a Class C Driver’s Licence; and
- Hold a General Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).

OR

- Cadet Building Surveyor
- Commencing salary of $80,270.84 gross per annum with the opportunity to progress to $96,325.06 + superannuation (12%).
- Potential for an additional annual Accreditation Allowance upon completion of cadetship and attainment of Building Surveyor—restricted (class 1 and 10 buildings) accreditation (A3 Accreditation) = $2,000.
- Access to Council’s Flexible Working Arrangements.
- Ongoing training and development opportunities.
- Generous leave entitlements.

As a Cadet Building Surveyor, your key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

- Conducting supervised assessment of Development Applications (DA), Complying Development Certificates (CDC), and Construction Certificates (CC), Occupation Certificates, building information certificates and applications for movable dwellings, plumbing and drainage works, Swimming Pool compliance applications under the Swimming Pools (SP) Act 1992 and for all classes of buildings under s68 of the Local Government Act 1993; and
- Undertaking of inspections of approved development for compliance.

To be successful in this role, you will:

- Be enrolled, or eligible to enrol, in a course to obtain tertiary qualifications relevant to the role (e.g. Diploma/Degree in Building Surveying);
- Hold or be eligible to hold a minimum accreditation level of Building Inspector (A4 level accreditation)under the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018 Accreditation Scheme.
- Complete your cadetship upon attaining the accreditation level of Building Surveyor—restricted (class 1 and 10 buildings), with the opportunity to be appointed to the position of Building Surveyor.
- Demonstrate an ongoing preparedness and motivation to undertake the necessary actions to achieve accreditation as a Building Surveyor - either Restricted (A2) or Unrestricted (A1) under the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018;
- Hold a Class C Driver’s Licence; and
- Hold a General Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
