About the Role:
Our client, a state government organisation, is currently seeking a PO2 Remote Sensing Scientist based in Brisbane. In this role, you’ll interpret satellite and other imagery to map and identify landscape changes with a focus on fire scars. You will provide your knowledge and expertise to effectively contribute to state‑wide mapping and monitoring projects.
As a Remote Sensing Scientist, you will:
Process, interpret and analyse remote sensing imagery and spatial data to identify, map and monitor environmental change
Generate and deliver high quality, scientifically defensible environmental mapping, and monitoring products and contribute to their continuous improvement
Contribute to the preparation of high‑quality reports, publications, presentations, and project related documentation
Participate in fieldwork and field data collection for the calibration and validation of remotely sensed imagery and derived mapping products
Work independently and as a member of a team and contribute positively to the team’s day to day operations, functioning and culture
Skills & Experience:
A tertiary qualification in Applied Science, Natural Resource Management or Environmental Management majoring in Remote Sensing, Image Processing, Geographic Information System (GIS), or Geography or agreed equivalent
A high level of computer literacy and experience working with QGIS and/or ArcGIS software
Experience in remote sensing, image analysis and interpretation for landscape mapping and monitoring, preferably with a focus on fire scars
The ability to translate data into meaningful information for reporting or analytical purposes
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team-oriented team setting
Proven ability to engage and communicate with team members, customers and cooperative partners
A positive and approachable work attitude
