About the role
The Soil Conservation Service (SCS) are looking for a Field Environment Officer to join the team. Operating in a competitive commercial environment, this role has a practical on ground site-based focus, and you’ll be working on environmental construction projects and programs with a focus on conservation earthworks, construction and management of tracks, trails and infrastructure for fire and recreational functions, coastal erosion projects, land remediation, riparian works and erosion control. As a Field Environmental Officer you will learn and apply the work methods of your team and may be trained to use machinery ranging from hand tools to heavy plant to work on a range of environmental and civil construction projects. You’ll also gain general experience in project management, civil works and environmental construction program delivery and learn to assist senior staff investigate, develop and scope solutions for natural resource management issues.

About You
To be successful you will need to have a strong willingness to learn and develop in the field of environmental and civil construction. Our ideal candidate will have:
1. To be someone who’s keen to gain hands-on experience in the safe delivery of quality environmental construction projects.
2. Previous experience or have the willingness to learn civil and environmental works project management principles and the operation of earth moving and associated machinery.
3. Previous experience or the willingness to learn/obtain competencies required to complete civil and environmental works safely – for example first aid training, Agricultural chemical handling or 4WD training
4. Ability to undertake a broad range of work site activities under guidance from senior team members and supervisors, contributing to the construction of soil and water conservation earthworks, civil works, and asset maintenance programs.
5. Enthusiasm to participate in on the job training and lessons learnt activities, using project and work site knowledge gained to build upon existing educational and training outcomes.
6. Proficiency in basic computer and office tasks, including data collection and entry into business systems, log sheets, time sheets, and or the hiring manager listed for a confidential discussion.
The preferred candidate for this role may be required to undergo reference checks, a national police check, bankruptcy check, health assessment and/or other assessments as required.
A talent pool may be created for ongoing and temporary roles of the same type that may arise within the next 18 months.
