The Central Core Laboratory includes the units of Central Specimen Reception, Core Haematology, and Core Chemistry. The position will be located within the Core Haematology work unit of the Central Core Laboratory. The Clinical Assistant in Core Haematology reports to the Supervising Scientist Core Haematology.
The successful incumbent will be responsible for performing a broad range of simple to complex pre-analytical procedures consistently and accurately and maintaining competence in the operational aspects of the Core Haematology unit. This is a fixed term contract for 12 months.
Key competencies (role specific criteria):
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
* Demonstrated ability or the ability to rapidly learn pathology pre-analytical processes, e.g., preparation of blood films, ESR analysis, preparation of films and staining of malaria and Kleihauer samples, loading samples onto analysers, centrifugation of samples, aliquoting, storage and retrieval of specimens, supply receiving and preparation of orders.
* Demonstrated ability to effectively use computerised systems, basic keyboarding skills particularly for data entry.
Demonstrated ability to solve problems, manage time effectively with competing priorities with strong attention to detail and ability to focus in a busy, complex environment.
* Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills including an ability to develop collaborative working relationships to effectively communicate and to contribute positively to a team environment.
* Highly developed customer focus with experience dealing with a variety of people and a high level of awareness of impact of the individual on the overall customer experience.
