About the role:
We are looking for a self-motivated, safety-focused, and environmentally-minded Waste Facilities Leading Hand to join our Waste Services team, to oversee and coordinate operations at our Dunsborough Waste Facility.
In this hands-on role, you will lead and work alongside a hardworking team maintaining this vital public and commercial facility, and play a key role in driving recycling and sustainability efforts in one of WA's fastest-growing and most beautiful coastal regions.
What you'll be doing:
Reporting to the Waste Services Supervisor you will:
* Lead your team through daily pre-starts and daily direction to meet scheduled tasks.
* Supervise daily site operations, ensuring compliant, safe and efficient practices.
* Oversee the disposal of commercial waste, and induct and direct contractors coming onto site.
* Operate plant and equipment, including the loader and compactor, and provide relief for gatehouse operators as required.
* Trouble-shoot and resolve any site issues, escalating to the Supervisor as required.
* Contribute to site and landfill development plans, staff training, and improvement initiatives
* Ensure excellent customer service is provided to residents, contractors and City staff.
What you'll bring to the role:
You'll bring natural leadership abilities with hands-on experience in site management, either in waste operations or civil works, where you have demonstrated the proven ability to keep daily operations running smoothly. You'll thrive working outdoors and will be highly safety focused. You'll be able to successfully demonstrate:
* Team leadership experience
* An understanding of waste disposal and recycling practices
* Strong communication and customer service skills
* Independent problem-solving skills
* Experience operating mobile plant
* A positive, community-minded attitude
Applicants will also need a White Card, HR licence, loader ticket (or willing to obtain) and be able to provide a National Police Clearance no more than six months old.
Your daily shift will be 7:00am-4:00pm, Monday to Friday, working a 9 day fortnight. There is a requirement to be on call on alternate weekends (this attracts additional payments) and paid overtime can also occasionally be required as both City waste facilities operate 7 days a week.
