Payroll Officer – APS6 Equivalent

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Payroll Officer (APS6 equivalent) to join a high-performing government team delivering both day-to-day payroll operations and payroll-related project initiatives.
This role is offered through labour hire arrangements and is ideal for candidates who are confident working with complex payroll environments and have an interest in supporting business improvement and remediation activities.
About the Role
As a Payroll Officer, you will contribute to a range of payroll functions including end-to-end processing, compliance checking, data analysis, and system enhancements. You will also play a key role in supporting project work, including payroll remediation and process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Process and review payroll transactions in line with legislation, policies and industrial instruments
Contribute to payroll remediation activities, identifying errors and supporting correction processes
Interpret and analyse payroll data, assisting in the preparation of reports and insights
Support system testing and business improvements, including participation in user acceptance testing
Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to support service delivery and continuous improvement
Maintain accurate records and ensure high levels of data integrity and confidentiality
Key Requirements
Proven experience in payroll processing within a complex or high-volume environment
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in data reconciliation
Excellent attention to detail and the ability to interpret legislation, policies, and agreements
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll-related systems
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment
Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Desirable: Experience with Aurion payroll systems or similar enterprise platforms
Security: Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance
