The Plants Chemicals and Invasives Unit (PCI) within Agriculture Victoria is looking for a Biosecurity Officer – Agricultural Chemicals to support the Victorian community with preparing for and managing the impacts of biosecurity. We are looking for an energetic, thoughtful candidate who has enthusiasm for working within a diverse regional team to deliver quality services to the Victorian community.
This Biosecurity Officer – Agricultural Chemicals position is primarily responsible for regulating the use of agricultural and veterinary chemicals under the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals (Control of Use) Act 1992 and invasive species management under the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994. The position will deliver regional chemical and invasives species projects and activities within the Northern Region, and other areas of the State as required.
The position performs a key role within the Biosecurity and Agriculture Services Branch, responding to allegations of chemical misuse, assisting industry in maintaining market access to domestic and international trade and in mitigating the economic and social effects of chemical use in Victoria. The position also plays a key role in supporting industry and communities in mitigating the economic and social effects of invasive plants, animals, and pests and disease in Victoria.
As part of an integrated and flexible business model within the Biosecurity and Agriculture Services Branch, you may also provide support to other programs or regions and be involved in emergency prepardness and response.
The successful applicant will work effectively as a member of a team, enjoy flexible working arrangements and undertake a wide variety of work across the Branch. As this is a regulatory position, you will be required to conduct investigations and may appear in court.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
• A tertiary degree in Science, Agricultural Science, or Natural Resource Management (other related Science Degrees may be considered).
This is ongoing position with a work location of Bendigo and hybrid work arrangements available.
