From the iconic Leeuwin–Naturaliste and Wellington national parks to the rich jarrah, wandoo, and towering karri forests, the region is a world-renowned biodiversity hotspot filled with pristine beaches, attractive inland waters, and extensive hiking and mountain bike trails. It is a place where your work directly contributes to conserving a unique environment, while partnering meaningfully with Aboriginal groups whose deep cultural connections to Country guide park management.
The South West Region's key service deliverables include nature conservation, parks and visitor services, sustainable forest management, fire management, and land-use planning. The region's headquarters is based in Bunbury. Services are also delivered via the Blackwood District, located at Busselton with work centres at Margaret River, Nannup and Kirup; and the Wellington District, located at Collie with a smaller work centre at Harvey.
We are seeking to establish a pool of suitable applicants in the role of Ranger.
Under immediate supervision, this position:
* Engages in the delivery of programmed operational activities across parks and reserves, including maintaining and servicing visitor facilities and infrastructure, conducting compliance activities and contributing towards establishing new recreational sites.
* Provides on-ground support for conservation initiatives such as fire management, feral animal and weed control programs. Contributes to interpretive and educational activities that help visitors understand and appreciate park values.
* Engages in visitor management, fee monitoring and positive engagement with park visitors, volunteers and contractors.
* Works as part of a collaborative team to ensure parks are safe, well presented and managed in line with environmental and community expectations.
Please note that an administrative payment is in place for staff employed under the Rangers (National Parks) General Agreement 2022 which provides a 5% administrative wage increase (in addition to the salary range quoted above) until the new agreement is registered.
The successful applicants will be required to possess or obtain a current Working With Children Check and a current and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.

Selection Criteria
1. Good interpersonal skills with an ability for (Grade 1) or experience in (Grade 2) liaison with the public, commercial tourism operators, community groups, Indigenous groups and other stakeholders.
2. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team, show initiative and to work unsupervised.
3. Ability to (Grade 1) or demonstrated experience in (Grade 2) construction and maintenance, carrying out routine maintenance duties, including the use of hand tools, power tools, chainsaws and small engines.
