Who Are We Looking For?
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Staff Specialist – Intensivist to work as part of the Intensive Care Team at the North West Regional Hospital.
About The North West Regional Hospital
The North West Regional Hospital is a 160-bed facility and is the principal referral centre for the North West Tasmanian community. The hospital provides general medicine, surgical services, intensive care, cancer services, paediatric services, outpatient clinics and specialist services.
About The ICU
The ICU at North West Regional Hospital is an 8-bed Level 2 ICU, providing critical care services to the North West Tasmania. The general case mix of patients may include trauma, sepsis, multi-system failure, post-operative complications, unstable angina/AMI, cardiac failure/arrhythmias and respiratory failure.
The role
You will provide high-quality specialist intensive care services and clinical leadership across the ICU and the broader hospital, supporting safe systems, patient flow, and a positive learning culture.
Key clinical and professional accountabilities
* Deliver contemporary specialist Intensive Care services, including admission/discharge decision-making and consultative support to deteriorating ward and ED patients.
* Provide clinical leadership within ICU, supporting best practice care, multidisciplinary decision-making, and effective patient flow.
* Supervise and support registrars and junior medical staff, contributing to a culture of coaching, feedback, and ongoing professional development.
* Participate in quality improvement, clinical audit, safety and governance activities consistent with THS priorities and NSQHS standards.
* Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in partnership with the University of Tasmania/Rural Clinical School and THS training programs.
* Participate in the after-hours on-call roster. The frequency of on-call is typically 1:4.
Salary
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 – Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3: $216,300 – $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation. Salary ranges and allowances are in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022.
Eligibility
* Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty.
* Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role.
Desirable Criteria
* Current Driver's Licence.
* Fellow of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (FCICM) or equivalent.
