About this Opportunity
School of Veterinary Science – University of Queensland Full‐time, continuing position at Gatton Campus. Base salary will be in the range $117,958 – $132,247 + 17% super (HEW Level 8). This role leads the Large & Production Animal Service within the UQ VETS Veterinary Teaching Hospital, combining clinical excellence with leadership and teaching responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide leadership across the Large & Production Animal Service by supporting daily operations, workforce planning, staff development, and service delivery while fostering a positive, collaborative, high‐performing team culture.
* Manage a diverse clinical caseload – routine, complex, urgent and emergency presentations – and participate in after‐hours, on‐call, and equine primary call‐outs as needed.
* Deliver high‐quality, relationship‐centred veterinary care across hospital and ambulatory settings, independently managing routine and complex large animal cases and supporting cross‐service caseloads.
* Mentor and develop veterinarians, students, interns, and residents through clinical leadership, teaching, supervision, and role modelling of professional, ethical, evidence‐based practice.
* Drive service excellence and growth through stakeholder engagement, client relationship management, continuous improvement initiatives, participation in hospital governance, and collaboration to achieve clinical, educational, and business outcomes.
Qualifications
* Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) with eligibility for veterinary registration in Queensland.
* ANZCVS Membership (or equivalent) or at least four years' experience in general practice, large animal medicine.
* Demonstrated leadership experience in clinical team coordination, performance development, mentoring, and service improvement.
* Strong relationship‐centred approach to veterinary care, building trusted partnerships with clients, colleagues, and the broader healthcare team.
* Commitment to excellence in veterinary education, serving as a positive clinical role model for students, interns, and junior veterinarians.
* Proven ability to manage complex clinical and operational priorities while contributing proactively to continuous improvement initiatives.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and teamwork skills, with experience building effective relationships across industry, government, professional bodies, and the wider community.
* Sound knowledge of veterinary legislation, professional standards, and workplace health and safety requirements, combined with a commitment to integrity, respect, and fostering a positive team culture.
* Effective written and oral communication skills.
