Our client is a leading investment manager with a long-standing track record in resources-focused equity strategies. With a global platform and deep sector expertise, the firm is known for its disciplined, research-led investment approach and commitment to ESG integration. As part of their growth in the Asia-Pacific region, they are expanding their presence in Perth to enhance local insights into the mining and resources sector.
We are seeking an Investment Analyst to join our client's Perth office, supporting the research and investment team in identifying opportunities across listed mining and resource companies. The role will report directly to the Director of Research and play an integral part in the firm's regional insight and global portfolio decisions.
The ideal candidate will have 3–8 years' experience across a mix of mining operations and financial services (e.g. geology, engineering, investment research, equity analysis or corporate finance), and a genuine passion for equities and the global resources industry. This role would suit someone intellectually curious, commercially minded, and looking to deepen their exposure to public market investing within the mining sector.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct research and analysis on listed mining / resource companies including building and maintaining financial models (DCF, NAV, comparables, etc.)
* Prepare investment reports and support portfolio decision-making, attend company meetings, field visits, and support due diligence
* Monitor commodity markets and macro trends
* Contribute to internal valuation tools and research platforms
Requirements
* 3–8 years' experience in mining and / or financial services
* Strong analytical and financial modelling skills coupled with a strong passion for equity markets and the resources sector in general
* Excellent written and verbal communication
* Tertiary qualifications in Geology, Engineering, Finance, Economics or related discipline. CFA qualification or progress toward it would be viewed favourably
* Technical proficiency in Excel; exposure to Power Query, SQL, Power BI a plus
* Willingness to travel or spend time in the firm's London office is advantageous
* Candidates with UK work rights will be viewed favourably. Whilst not essential, the ability and willingness to spend time in Baker Steel's London office is considered desirable. Candidates with UK work rights (e.g. UK passport, Youth Mobility Scheme eligibility, or other valid visa pathways) will be viewed favourably.
