This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2026. Katanning Senior High School (SHS) is a unique and distinctive secondary school located in the heart of the Great Southern region of Western Australia. Role

As part of the school improvement program, Katanning SHS is seeking a Head of Learning Area – English. This newly created role offers a rare opportunity to shape the future of curriculum and pedagogy in a regional school committed to innovation and improvement. In this leadership role, the successful applicant would lead curriculum design and delivery within the learning area, displaying a strong understanding of School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) requirements. The role includes championing instructional coaching and staff development to foster a culture of collaborative professional growth. Promoting evidence-based teaching practices aligned with our instructional model, grounded in Explicit Direct Instruction and the Science of Learning, is highly regarded. Embracing and championing the Positive Behaviour in Schools (PBIS) initiative to create a supportive and respectful learning environment is essential. The role also involves driving curriculum and assessment differentiation to address diverse student needs and leading data-informed decision making to guide planning and targeted interventions. Modeling and cultivating personal attributes such as resilience, determination, and reflective practice is important.

Eligibility and Requirements

To work with us, you must:

* be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment
* hold registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia
* obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start
* consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start
