Disability Support Worker - Part Time - Sale

We are seeking a Disability Support Worker to join Melba Support Services. Melba supports people with disability to live the life they want and is a not-for-profit, community organisation committed to human rights, values, and zero tolerance of violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Position Responsibilities & Duties

General

* Commitment to Melba's vision, missions, values, human rights framework, and Zero Tolerance.
* Compliance with Melba's Code of Conduct, privacy, workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
* Commitment to creating and fostering a workplace free from bullying, harassment, or any form of unreasonable behaviour towards a person, group of people or Melba.
* Conduct all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Melba's policies and procedures.

* Interactions with co-workers and people supported are culturally appropriate and sensitive to each individual's needs.
* Provide opportunities that support people to live a life of their choosing irrespective of background and differences.

Occupational Health, Safety & Wellbeing (OHS&W)

* Take reasonable care for health, safety, and wellbeing of self and others.
* Observe safe systems of work and follow OHS&W policies and procedures.
* Report hazards, near misses and incidents as required.
* Contribute to a positive culture regarding OHS&W and participate in consultative structures.

Role Specific

* Operating at DDSO1 level: directly support people's wellbeing, including daily household activities, meals, personal care, and social/community experiences that enhance quality of life, based on support plan goals.
* Understand and respond to supported people's needs, preferences, and interests and communicate with their families and others involved.
* Under general direction, implement a range of people support plans.
* Provide information, feedback and reports, including recording charts and completing routine tasks using Melba systems.
* Keep accurate records of work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and Melba policies.
* Take reasonable care for own health and safety and that of others in the workplace.
* Demonstrate how actions and outcomes impact clients and service delivery.

DDSO1Q

* Operating at DDSO1Q level: increasing involvement, including day-to-day running of the group home, liaison with service providers, administration of medication per prescribed protocols (or seeking medical assistance), and development/monitoring of support plans with senior oversight.
* Develop planned activities in line with Melba policies and guidelines; advocate for increased access to community resources and inclusion.
* Establish links with community resources; contribute to longer-term house development plans; share observations with supervisors.
* Liaise with families, medical services, and external services to meet client needs.


Key Selection Criteria & Skills/Attributes

* All new applicants are subject to a NDIS Worker Screening Check.
* All staff must have a current Victorian Working with Children Check and maintain it.
* New staff must obtain an NDIS Worker Screening Clearance before the expiry of the WWC check.
* Applicants who have lived overseas for 12 months or longer in the past 10 years must provide an international police check.

* Stakeholder management: responds to supported people's needs; keeps stakeholders updated; follows through on inquiries; takes responsibility for resolving problems promptly.
* Verbal communication: clear explanations, active listening, polite and respectful interaction.
* Interpersonal skills: courteous and considerate in dealing with others.
* Self-management: responsible, goal-focused, aware of strengths, weaknesses and personal biases.

Qualifications

* A Level 2 First Aid Certificate with CPR is required.
* A full driver's licence is required for shifts involving transportation of people supported.
* All new starters must complete a mandatory Melba induction program prior to starting.
* DDSO1: Unqualified staff have access to on-the-job learning; automatic progression to 1Q on attainment of Certificate IV in Disability Work.
* DDSO1Q: A Certificate IV in Disability Work or equivalent is required and must be supplied with the application.
