**The Company**
LongReach Plant Breeders Management (LPB) Pty Ltd is a national wheat breeding program delivering robust wheat varieties to grain growers in each of the key production zones of the Australian wheat belt. LongReach, is a joint venture between Pacific Seeds and Syngenta Australia, and has set new standards in the management and operation of wheat breeding, both in Australia and abroad. It aims to significantly reduce the breeding cycle and increase genetic gain so that growers are well-equipped to handle new environmental, pest and disease challenges.
**The Role**
An excellent opportunity has now become available for a self-motivated and results-oriented individual to join the team as
**BREEDING OPERATIONS ASSISTANT**, based in their Lonsdale office in Adelaide. Reporting to the Breeding Operations Manager, your primary responsibility will be to assist in carrying out the Wheat breeding operations based in the office and warehouse facility. Responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in grain testing
- Seed preparation for trials
- Field observations
- Logistics operations of the breeding program
- Assisting with assessment of grain quality and abiotic stress tolerance
- Supervision of casual employees and warehouse processes will be critical for this role
- Maintain the hygiene and the Work Health & Safety of the Lonsdale facility
**The Person**
As the successful applicant you will be experienced in a similar operations role or university experience within the agricultural or related industry accompanied by a working knowledge of grain testing and sampling. You will also possess the following skills & attributes:
- High attention to detail and demonstrated experience working to deadlines
- Be comfortable taking a leadership role leading a team of casual employees
- Formal qualification in Agriculture will be an advantage
- Experience in breeding operations/warehouse activities is preferred but not essential
- Experience within a laboratory workplace i.e. software, screening, testing and experimenting is important
- Current driver's license is essential and Forklift operating license would be an advantage
- ChemCert or Fumigation license or ability to obtain one is needed
To succeed within this role you will be a self-starter and able to work in a fast-paced environment (often in differing weather conditions e.g. hot, dusty, cold, windy) while being able to demonstrate your good problem solving and communication skills.
