Kat the Label is an Australian lingerie and sleepwear brand with a commitment to beautiful design, quality construction, and product that feels as good as it looks. As we continue to grow, we are building the foundations of a best-in-class product team - and we are looking for a talented Garment Technician to be a key part of that journey.
THE ROLE
This is a newly created position within our business, offering the opportunity to establish and shape garment technology processes from the ground up. Reporting to the Product Manager, you will be responsible for fit, quality and technical standards across our lingerie and sleepwear range, collaborating closely with our offshore supplier base to ensure every garment meets brand standards from proto through to production approval.
This role is well suited to someone who brings both technical expertise and a proactive mindset - someone who is ready to take ownership, work with pace, and grow with the brand.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Fit & Approvals
* Manage all stages of fit approvals (Proto, PPS, SS), ensuring fit, grading, workmanship and functionality meet brand and customer expectations
* Lead and attend fit sessions on a set schedule (typically Monday and Thursday), providing clear and constructive technical feedback with a 2-3 business day turnaround from sample received date
* Conduct risk assessments on fabrications and styles, providing proactive solutions to minimise quality concerns and customer returns
Tech Packs & Technical Standards
* Develop and maintain detailed tech packs, ensuring accurate specifications, construction details and fit requirements are clearly communicated to suppliers
* Maintain accurate tech packs, size charts and all technical records
* Audit and update care labels to ensure accuracy and compliance across the range
* Apply strong knowledge of pattern making, garment construction, machinery and finishes to technical documentation
* Liaise directly with offshore factories (primarily China-based) to address and resolve fit, construction and quality issues in a timely manner
* Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, communicating clearly and professionally in writing and verbally
Quality & Process
* Establish and implement QC processes, inspection standards and quality systems, with a focus on building scalable and consistent practices as the business grows
* Conduct QA across product and packaging, ensuring all standards are met prior to production sign-off
* Utilise advanced Excel skills to track, analyse and report on quality and fit data
Size & Fit Development
* Conduct a thorough audit of our existing customer size chart, identifying opportunities to improve accuracy, consistency and fit across the range - working closely with the Customer Service and Ecommerce teams across AU, US, UK and NZ markets
* Support the growth and expansion of our current size offering, ensuring new sizes are developed with the same level of technical rigour and fit integrity as our existing range
Critical Path & Collaboration
* Collaborate with the Product Manager to support critical path timelines and key seasonal milestones
* Work closely with design (Kate, Founder) - you will bring garments to life from a technical standpoint once design direction is set
* Operate with agility, reprioritising workload as samples arrive ad hoc and deadlines shift
ABOUT YOU
* 3-5 years' experience in a Garment Technician or Quality Assurance role, with experience in lingerie, intimates or womenswear strongly preferred
* Demonstrated knowledge of underwire construction and intimate apparel product development
* Strong understanding of garment construction, grading, pattern making, machinery and quality assurance principles - pattern making skills are essential
* Proven experience working with offshore manufacturers (Chinese supplier experience highly regarded) and managing supplier relationships
* Advanced Excel skills with experience using spreadsheets for technical tracking, size charts and data analysis
* Ability to hit the ground running while also contributing to the development of new processes and systems
* Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, ad hoc environment
* Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently across internal teams and external suppliers
* A collaborative, solutions-focused approach with a genuine passion for product quality
* Comfortable working autonomously and making confident technical decisions
