About our team

The Department of Home Affairs (The Department) is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.

Immigration Group is responsible for administering Australia's permanent and temporary migration programs, people smuggling policy and implementation and refugee and humanitarian settlement programs. The group delivers status resolution in detention and the community and manages the Department's client facing services and information services. It also provides policy advice on national impacts of migration, citizenship and people mobility and delivers citizenship, social cohesion and multicultural programs.

* Possess strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to work under pressure whilst remaining calm in stressful situations

* Display good judgement and pay careful attention to detail in order to make lawful decisions confidently whilst undertaking analysis and drawing accurate conclusions based on evidence
* Be capable of managing teams in a high-tempo environment with competing priorities and changing timeframes
* Work collaboratively with others in order to lead teams to deliver efficient and accurate workplace outcomes.

Duties and responsibilities

As an APS6 officer within the Immigration and Legal Groups you would typically work across the following categories:

* Managing or leading a team
* Assessment and decision making
* Writing policy or providing policy advice
* Managing programs or contracts
* Other enabling and supporting functions.

You are eligible to apply for a permanent Section 26 transfer if you are a current ongoing APS6 employee with a Commonwealth government agency.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
