About the opportunity There is currently one (1) fixed term – full time position with the possibility of extension and/or permanency available for immediate filling.
This position is currently available until November ****.
The position is based in Perth Metropolitan Area.
DPIRD is seeking a Technical Officer to join our "Maximising Carrot Packout" project.
Funded by Hort Innovation, this project aims to assist Australian carrot growers in increasing the percentage of carrots that meet grade 1 specification whilst reducing reject rates.
As a Technical Officer on this project, you will work alongside a research scientist to establish trials and demonstrations on growers' properties, as well as DPIRD research sites.
This will involve ground preparation, planting, assisting with irrigation, fertiliser, and pest and disease management, taking measurements and helping with harvest activities.
If you have experience in a similar technical role, especially with vegetable crops, and enjoy working in the field, this is a great opportunity to make a real impact on Australian carrot production.
We are looking for individuals with: Proven knowledge and experience in agricultural practices, research methods, and experimental techniques.
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to confidently liaise and collaborate with departmental, industry and community stakeholders.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse situations and develop effective solutions.
A good understanding of Australian horticultural production systems.
