Defence Force Counselling Role: Canberra Office-Basedabrs is seeking Counsellors, Social Workers, or Psychologists interested in a phone-based service with the Australian Defence Force.Join a challenging yet rewarding team-based roleEnjoy ongoing casual employment with full-time hoursExcellent potential for long-term and permanent opportunitiesIn this role, you will support Defence members and their families, addressing a broad range of issues.Based onsite in Brindabella Business Park, Canberra, this position offers a dynamic environment dealing with complex cases and providing urgent assistance.With over a decade of partnership with the Defence Member Family Services branch of the ADF, abrs has successfully placed many contractors nationwide, with many securing permanent roles within the Defence Force, making this a valuable stepping stone for long-term careers.This is an ongoing casual contract with a rotating roster from Monday to Sunday.The Role:Provide telephone counselling and referral assistance, utilizing crisis intervention and risk assessment skillsConduct assessments via telephone and SkypePrepare detailed written reportsParticipate in projects related to Defence membersRefer callers to appropriate servicesWork effectively within a team of professionals, including debriefing and knowledge sharingYou:Hold a degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Human Services/Social Sciences, Allied Health, or be a qualified Nurse with experience or further qualifications in Mental HealthDemonstrate assessment and communication skills (face-to-face and via telephone)Proven crisis intervention and risk assessment abilitiesExcellent communication skills and experience in detailed report writingMust be an Australian CitizenLocated in the ACT or willing to relocateWilling to work a full-time rotating roster, including day, afternoon, and weekend shiftsDesirable:3-5 years of postgraduate experience working with clients facing Mental Health issues, Domestic Violence, Grief and Loss, AOD, or HomelessnessA number of probity checks are required, including holding a current Working with Vulnerable People card and undertaking a National Police Check.Why partner with abrs?Our values are the foundation of our work.
