Reporting to the Group Executive People and Culture, you will be responsible for the implementation of the Safety Strategy and to build a positive WHS culture, whilst continuously improving the WHS performance, consistent with contemporary practice, current research, and legislative compliance requirements.
Key Duties
Senior Leadership & Strategic Contribution:
Actively contribute as a member of the senior management team, providing leadership on key operational, health, and safety matters in a dynamic and evolving infrastructure environment through effective strategy development and stakeholder engagement.
Health & Safety Strategy and Compliance:
Provide strategic oversight and expert advice on the development and implementation of health and safety programs aligned with TasPorts' Safety Strategy. Ensure compliance with all relevant WHS legislation, regulations, and standards, with a proactive focus on both physical and psychological health.
Health & Wellbeing Leadership:
Chair the organisation's Health and Wellbeing Committee, driving initiatives that support employee wellbeing, mental health, and a positive workplace culture. Lead the integration of health and wellbeing into the broader safety strategy.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. Partner with senior leaders across the business to embed a proactive safety and health culture and drive continuous improvement in operational practices.
Team Leadership & Culture:
Lead the Safety team by modelling a high-performance, values-driven culture. Inspire collaboration, innovation, and accountability to ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of all staff and contractors across TasPorts' operations.
Financial and Project Oversight:
Manage safety-related budgets effectively, ensuring efficient allocation of resources. Actively contribute to, and support, organisation-wide People & Culture initiatives and projects, aligning health and safety with broader workforce strategy and engagement objectives.

This role can be based in either Devonport, Burnie, Launceston or Hobart.
About you
Bring your extensive knowledge of contemporary health and safety to make a positive difference by championing a collaborative approach, building strong relationships, and fostering effective communication across all levels of the organisation.
The key experience we are looking for include:
Collaborative Leadership:
Proven ability to engage and influence key stakeholders at all levels, fostering alignment and driving strategic safety outcomes.
People & Culture Leadership:
Experience in leading high-performing teams, driving safety programs, and effectively managing change in agile environments.
Systems & Governance:
Demonstrated success in developing, implementing, and continuously improving robust safety systems, policies, and governance frameworks.
Continuous Improvement:
Strong track record in leading safety-related continuous improvement initiatives and cultivating a culture where team members actively contribute innovative ideas and improvements.
Multi-Site Leadership:
Proven experience in leading teams across multiple offices and/or operational sites, ensuring consistency and alignment in safety practices.
Legislative Compliance:
In-depth understanding of WHS legislation, with the ability to interpret and operationalise legal requirements to ensure full compliance.
Strategic Safety Management:
Demonstrated capability in designing and executing WHS strategies, policies, and procedures aligned to organisational goals and regulatory standards.
Leadership & Strategic Capability:
Demonstrated high-level leadership, strategic thinking, and management expertise
Current Driver's Licence:
Valid and unrestricted driver's licence.
Eligibility for Maritime Security Clearance:
Ability to acquire and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).
Recognised safety qualification:
Safety and investigation accreditation
Training & Facilitation:
Recognised training qualification (e.g. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment) or equivalent experience in delivering safety training and capability development.
HR Qualification an advantage – minimum Cert IV
Auditor Certification:
Formal training and certification in auditing safety systems (e.g. ISO 45001 or equivalent).
