About the Organisation
Lowitja Institute is Australia\'s only national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled health research institute. Named in honour of the late Dr Lowitja O\'Donoghue AC CBE DSG, we are dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through high-impact research, knowledge sharing, and nurturing the next generation of First Nations health researchers.
With roots dating back to 1997, we were formally established in 2010 and became a community controlled organisation in 2020, led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives.
About the Role
In this role you will take ownership of planning, delivering and evaluating Lowitja Institute\'s flagship biennial conference - one of the most significant events in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health sector.
You will drive conference strategy from concept to completion. This includes managing logistics, budgets, supplier contracts and a full program of presentations and social events, while ensuring the conference is culturally safe, accessible and sector-leading.
You will be the central point of coordination across the organisation - collaborating with internal teams, Elders, community leaders, partners and sponsors to deliver an event that reflects the Institute\'s values and maximises its national impact and profile
Key Duties
* Lead end-to-end planning, coordination and delivery of the biennial Lowitja Conference, including project timelines, risk management and post-event evaluation
* Manage relationships and contracts with the Professional Conference Organiser, venue and other suppliers to ensure high-quality delivery
* Oversee the conference budget and ensure sound financial management throughout
* Coordinate a full program of presentations and social events, ensuring cultural protocols, accessibility and WHS requirements are met
* Work closely with the Communications and Events team to deliver promotional materials, calls for abstracts and keynote announcements
* Engage meaningfully with Elders, community leaders, partners, sponsors and stakeholders to ensure culturally appropriate and collaborative participation
* Develop evaluation frameworks to measure conference outcomes and drive continuous improvement
* Support the Program Manager with broader event strategy and reporting
About You
* Proven experience planning and delivering complex, large-scale events or conferences
* Strong project management skills, including budgeting, logistics and stakeholder coordination
* Confidence engaging diverse stakeholders to achieve meaningful outcomes
* Experience producing quality digital and design outputs such as reports, newsletters and promotional assets
* Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure
* The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
