About the role
As part of the Public intoxication (Diversion) Service Stream this position provides assertive and respectful outreach, practical support and targeted assistance to clients who are frequent users of substances in public places. Your efforts will focus on reducing the amount and frequency of uptake of alcohol and or other drugs. You will also assist clients of the Bama Dakil Diversionary Centre and associated services along with people referred from Queensland Health, Department of Corrective Services, Centrelink or other agencies by contributing to case planning, advocacy, making referrals and or providing transportation to appointments with mainstream or specialists services
To be successful you will need
* Recognised Certificate 1V qualification in Community Services (or equivalent) or enrolment in studies is preferred.
* Prior experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds, providing support and or undertaking casework.
* Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and connection with people experiencing alcohol and other drug challenges, mental health issues, homelessness, disconnection from family and or those who are detained or incarcerated.
* Understanding of public intoxication, addiction, homelessness, mental health and domestic / family violence issues.
* Ability to network and collaborate with First Responders, health and medical services and other service providers.
* Good communication, numeracy, administration, data entry and computer skills and the ability to learn IT systems.
* Ability (and willingness) to comply with policies, procedures, established practices and contract deliverables.
* Experience working with First Nations people, families, Organisations and communities.
Compliance
* Satisfactory outcome of a current (less than 3 months old) National Criminal History Check
* Blue Card (QLD working with children card)
* QLD drivers' licence 'Class C' or interstate equivalent
* Required to transport clients and or to visit clients in their place of residence or within another out of office setting
* Ability (and willingness) to undertake local area / regional travel
* First Aid certificate and CPR certificate
