The Role
Research Lead to join the Inclusive Participation team. Reporting to a First Nations director, the role focuses on developing a bespoke multi‐year First Nations research program to inform policy on closing the gap on skills and employment outcomes for Indigenous Australians. The position is equivalent to a middle management role in the private sector or an early‐career researcher in academia and welcomes applicants from diverse academic, not‐for‐profit, advocacy and policy backgrounds.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Collaborate with the Indigenous Cultural Advisory Panel (ICAP) to develop and promote a multi‐year research program.
* Champion and embed Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles across initiatives.
* Design research projects and publications that use quantitative and qualitative methods to fill evidence gaps and drive policy change.
* Work with a transdisciplinary team of researchers, data analysts, economists and policy officers.
* Strategically design and lead research and analysis using diverse data sources to assess workforce and skills dynamics across industries, jobs and worker cohorts.
* Prepare high‐quality reports, briefs, papers and other deliverables for diverse audiences.
* Contribute to the delivery of ICAP and longer‐term projects under senior management guidance.
* Engage stakeholders and government partners to gather intelligence, validate findings and support policy reforms.
* Collaborate across teams and agencies to support JSA's strategic objectives.
Eligibility and Requirements
* You are an Australian Citizen or in the process of obtaining citizenship.
* You hold or can obtain a Baseline security clearance.
* You understand issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and have proven culturally appropriate engagement and communication skills.
* You possess research experience and capability to develop interdisciplinary research projects.
