Wilbur's Wildlife are seeking an experienced keeper to lead our animal training and care as we enter our next phase of growth. This is a unique opportunity to lead the creation of the animal training department and create the processes associated with this.

Reporting to the Director of Animal Care and Director of Business Operations you will work to develop training programs that ensure our animal ambassadors thrive within their roles during our native animal presentations and support the development of the business.

This role will be based at our Murray Bridge headquarters. It will also involve travel across South Australia to deliver native animal presentations at schools, kindergartens, aged care homes and events. Including occasional use of your own vehicle with a mileage reimbursement provided.

We maintain a diverse range of animals including reptiles, mammals, birds, amphibians and invertebrates and the selected candidate will work across all taxa.

This role will suit a person with experience in animal training looking to take on their next challenge and grow alongside the business.

About the Role

Wilbur's Wildlife operates currently with a small team and your role will be diverse with a range of responsibilities depending on operational requirements. The individual selected for this role will take the lead on developing and implementing an animal training program initially focussed on birds and small mammals.

Core Duties

* Providing native animal presentations at a range of venues including schools, kindergartens, events and birthday parties for groups of people
* General animal care such as feeding, cleaning and health checks
* Record Keeping
* Develop and implement training plans for a range of species.
* Identify and cut browse to feed our collection
* Other duties as required

Key Requirements

* Hold a valid Australian Driver's License and be capable of driving a manual vehicle
* Available to work across a rotating roster including a minimum of every second weekend and occasional public holidays
* Minimum 2 years experience working with native animals in a captive setting
* Previous experience in training native animals for display
* Currently hold or eligible to obtain a Working with Children's Check and Police Clearance

Well Regarded

* Previous experience with training birds for free-flight presentations
* Previous experience with crocodilians
* Certificate III in Wildlife and Exhibited Animal Care

Pay: $63,000.00 – $67,000.00 per year
