What you'll be doing
The Provisional Fellow (PF) Orthopaedic position is under the Division of Anaesthesia, Surgery and Intensive Care and provides high level care to orthopaedic inpatients and outpatients consulted by orthopaedic surgeons. The PF provides high level management of complex orthopaedic problems and provides clinical leadership while the consultant surgeons are not immediately available. The PF will be directed by the Consultant Surgeons and in turn will direct and, if necessary, assist the Intern/RMO on their team to complete all pre and post-surgical care, including assessments, diagnostics, documentation, arrangement of patient dishcarge process and communication to provide optimal care. The PF will provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment in inpatient and outpatient areas in the public health organisation. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): - A leadership role in coordinating the admission, management and discharge planning of patients seen in or admitted to orthopaedics, and ensuring that the admission and plans are documented in the medical record.
* The day to day assessment and management of the patients in orthopaedics, communicating with them and their family the nature of their condition and its treatment.
* Communicating and coordinating care with their team, arranging consultation with other staff when appropriate, then arranging discharge and liaising with local medical officers and other community based care modalities.
* Decision making concerning the patient(s) in consultation with their immediate supervisor and team.
* Participation in the afterhours and relief roster.
* MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
* Completion of at least six postgraduate years working as a medical officer with demonstrated competence in Orthopedics and experience in operating theatre and a demonstrated commitment to a career in Orthopaedics
* Demonstrates ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills (at the required level of competency) and judgment and expertise.
* Demonstrates teamwork, time management and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills.
* A professional attitude and flexibility in work role with a preparedness and ability to participate in after-hours overtime and on-call rosters and the required rotations both between services and geographical location to deliver patient care (including rural locations).
* Demonstrated good organisational, time management skills and commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
