This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher to move in to the TEACHaR Program on a full-time basis for the first half of 2026, with a view to continuing the role/s beyond this time.
We are looking for a teacher with a background in trauma-informed teaching to fill three new roles within the Program:
* 0.4FTE Education Specialist working within the Therapeutic Residential Care model based in Maryborough;
* 0.3FTE Education Specialist working within the Therapeutic Residential Care model based in BEndigo;
* 0.3FTE Education Specialist in the TEACHaR - Department of Education Youth Justice partnership.
Flexibility to work part time: The option to split the role and apply for any or a combination of the following: 0.4FTE Therapeutic Residential Care Education Specialist in Maryborough; 0.3FTE Therapeutic Residential Care Education Specialist in Bendigo; 0.3TFE Youth Justice Education Specialist is also available.

The Position:
This role provides qualified teachers the opportunity to provide one to one teaching to vulnerable young people residing in residential care to re-engage with education, improving attendance and retention. Improving the life outcomes for young people through education. You will be required to implement tailored educational programs to meet the individual needs of the young people. This includes providing intensive teaching in literacy and numeracy to enable the young people to reach their true potential.
You will be working closely with the young person's Care Team which may include carers, case managers, school staff and other professionals.
Who are we looking for?
* A tertiary qualification in Education, current FULL VIT registration and a minimum of 4 years teaching experience.
* The roles require an understanding of supporting young people in the secondary school years to re-engage with education settings and/or vocational pathways. Experience and networks within these sectors is desirable.
* The ability to develop and implement individual learning plans for children and young people who have experienced significant educational disruption and who present with complex psychological and social needs.
* Demonstrated experience in working with children and young people with complex needs, understanding how trauma affects learning.
* An ability to use educational assessment tools and data to inform planning and practice.
* The ability to thrive in a changing environment with competing priorities, to manage stressful situations, monitoring own stress levels and practicing and promoting self-care strategies.
* Demonstrated expertise or transferable skills to actively contribute to a multidisciplinary team across, Alcohol and Other Drug, Therapeutic Specialists, Case Managers, Youth Justice, and Community Youth Workers.
* Understanding of the Educational Partnering Agreement, and other State Government Educational initiatives for children in out of home care, such as LOOKOUT Centre's.
* Demonstrated experience in de-escalation strategies and mental health awareness.

* Salary at full time is $111,051 plus 12% and Salary Packaging benefits. Please pro rata this salary if applying for part time (hourly rate $56.20)
* Fixed term to June 30th 2026 with a view to extension.

* Based at an office in Bendigo and/or Maryborough with travel across the surrounding areas.
