Surf Life Saving Queensland is one of the state's most trusted and iconic community organisations. With a proud history of protecting Queenslanders in, on and around the water, SLSQ is seeking an exceptional Chief Executive Officer on a 3 year fixed term contract to lead the organisation into its next phase of growth, impact and innovation.
About the Role:
The CEO is responsible and accountable for delivering SLSQ's strategic objectives, driving organisational growth, and strengthening the SLSQ profile and brand across Queensland. The CEO will cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders and strengthen community, government and philanthropic partnerships to drive long-term organisational success. This role leads the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to achieve its financial, operational and strategic goals while ensuring SLSQ continues to serve its members and the community with excellence. Key Responsibilities:
* Foster a positive, future focused and high-performance culture that energises staff, volunteers and stakeholders, and attracts and retains exceptional talent.
* Lead, mentor and develop the Executive Leadership Team to ensure capability, cohesion and alignment.
* Maintain strong, transparent communication with the Board, members and key stakeholders.
* Oversee efficient, high quality day to day operations with a focus on continuous improvement.
* Champion water safety and represent SLSQ as Queensland's peak body across forums, government, media and industry groups.
* Provide strategic direction and deliver organisational plans aligned with SLSQ's Strategic Plan.
* Lead a diverse operational portfolio including commercial, aviation and profit-for-purpose operations and accordingly, engage with senior government stakeholders.
* Ensure long term organisational sustainability and growth through strong financial management and governance.
* Strengthen member and Club engagement and support growth in participation across affiliated Clubs.
* Uphold governance, safety and inclusion by ensuring best practice risk management and through strong regulatory compliance, a safe and respectful workplace and leadership of DEI initiatives.
* Participate in all State and National committees as required.
About You:
You are a visionary and strategic leader with a track record of delivering organisational growth, cultural uplift and operational excellence. You thrive in complex stakeholder environments, communicate with influence, and lead with integrity and purpose. Experience in member based, community, emergency services or profit-for-purpose organisations will be highly regarded, but above all, you bring passion for SLSQ's mission and the capability to drive meaningful impact.
Candidates with the following background, experience and attributes are encouraged to apply:
1. Tertiary qualifications in Business or Management are essential, with governance training (e.g., AICD) desirable.
2. Significant executive level experience (ideally 5–10 years) in a comparable leadership role.
3. Strong commercial acumen with experience identifying and developing revenue and marketing opportunities.
4. Demonstrated ability to deliver organisational growth and continuous improvement.
5. Proven inspirational and authentic leadership capability, including cultural change management.
6. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships across local, state and federal government.
7. Experience working effectively with Boards, Committees and complex stakeholder environments.
8. Financial management capability and sound understanding of regulatory and governance frameworks.
9. Experience in risk management and demonstrated ability to identify, assess and mitigate strategic, financial, operational and reputational risks.
10. Experience within NFP, volunteer based or membership organisations (Surf Life Saving and aviation knowledge desirable).
11. Highly developed strategic thinking, communication, negotiation and problem solving skills.
12. Commitment to safety, resilience, professionalism and alignment with the mission and values of Surf Life Saving.
