**What you'll be doing**
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced dietitian with highly developed clinical skills (either adult or paediatric) to take on a leadership role within a specialist tertiary health network.
The Nutrition and Dietetic Department aims to work in partnership to advocate for optimised nutrition for children through evidence based clinical care, education, research and leadership. We specialise in addressing the unique nutritional needs of children from neonates to adolescents, across a range of clinical domains. Our primary aim is to optimise the growth and nutritional status of all children with chronic and complex medical conditions.
The Deputy Head of Department provides leadership within the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics through assisting the Head
of Department in the day to day management of dietetics staff and services at The Children's Hospital at Westmead, while maintaining a clinical role. This includes oversight of the Diet Office and Formula Room operations.
Management duties include assistance with workload allocation for dietitians and nutrition assistants, budget management, staff recruitment and personnel management including technical staff operating in both the Diet Office and the Formula Room, contributing to service reviews and development, updating nutrition and dietetics policies and procedures including the Formula Room Food Safety Plan, coordinating data collection and statistical reporting, and co-ordination of the dietetics professional development program. This position works closely with the senior dietitian clinical educator position to facilitate student clinical placements, paediatric dietetics lecture series for the universities and ongoing professional development of all dietetic staff.
Commitment to the promotion of a culture of continuous improvement and consumer participation in paediatric nutrition is required.

- Senior dietitian grade with extensive and acknowledged clinical skills and experience in a range of clinical areas in an allied health environment in a hospital setting
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team effectively, with highly developed interpersonal skills including excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills and the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels. This requires excellent written and oral communication skills, including computer literacy
- Demonstrated ability to provide in-depth advice, leadership and direction in service planning, the development of models of care, and to guide and support others in providing service excellence
- Demonstrated ability to act as a state wide clinical resource and consultant for health and other professionals in the tertiary Nutrition & Dietetics management of children & young people
- Demonstrated experience in, understanding of and commitment to promoting a culture of continuous quality improvement based on evidence based practice and a commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning
