Position Overview
The Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for leading the financial strategy, discipline, and scalability of the organisation as it grows from a multi-trade, $20M home-services group toward a $100M+ business.
This role is accountable for the financial performance, modelling, risk management, reporting accuracy, cashflow strength, and commercial insight across all business units — including Plumbing Services, Electrical, Roofing (metal, tile, gutters, restoration), and Renovations.
The CFO will also own the integration of acquisitions, oversee multi-entity consolidation, ensure financial processes, and build robust models for each department to support operational decision-making.
Working closely with the Managing Director, General Manager, and Divisional Managers, the CFO ensures the business has the systems, controls, visibility, and intelligence to scale safely and profitably.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Leadership & Strategy
Lead the long-term financial strategy needed to scale from $20M to $100M+.
Build and manage a rolling ***** month cashflow model, updated weekly.
Develop financial strategies for growth, capital investment, new divisions, equipment, and workforce expansion.
Provide high-level commercial advice to support decision-making across all departments.
Own financial planning, budgeting, margin control, and revenue forecasting across the group.
2. Financial Operations & Reporting
Oversee all financial activities across multiple entities and divisions.
Produce accurate monthly board-level financial reports, including P&L by division, balance sheet, cashflow, WIP, and job profitability.
Implement strong internal controls to safeguard company assets.
Ensure timely and accurate payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and BAS/ATO compliance.
3. Job Costing, Margin Control & Department Modelling
Build advanced financial models for each department:
Plumbing Service
Plumbing Install
Electrical
Metal Roofing
Tile Roofing
Roof Restorations
Renovations
Analyse job profitability, labour loading, overhead distribution, contractor cost structures, materials usage, and divisional GP% targets.
Work with Divisional Managers to improve efficiency, pricing, and profitability.
Create dashboards for the CEO and GM to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
4. Systems Ownership (QuickBooks + ServiceTitan)
Oversee integration, optimisation, and ongoing alignment between QuickBooks, ServiceTitan, and internal reporting systems.
Improve data integrity, automation, and reporting accuracy across all departments.
Build repeatable financial processes in line with ISO requirements.
5. Acquisition Strategy & Integration
Lead due diligence for potential acquisitions, including financial analysis, risk assessment, valuation, and integration planning.
Build group consolidation models that enable fast integration and clean reporting.
Establish robust post-acquisition tracking and performance measurement.
6. People Leadership
Lead and mentor the finance team to create a high-performance culture.
Improve financial literacy across operations, dispatch, sales, and divisional leadership teams.
Ensure staff development, clear KPIs, structured reviews, and performance accountability.
7. Compliance, Audit & ISO Responsibilities
Oversee tax compliance, audits, insurance reviews, WorkCover, payroll tax, and statutory obligations.
Maintain finance processes across safety, quality, and environmental frameworks.
Ensure clean documentation, audit readiness, and robust control processes.
8. Operational & Commercial Support
Partner with Operations, Dispatch, Call Centre, and Divisional Management to support productivity, scheduling, job costing, materials control, labour management, and pricing strategies.
Strengthen relationships with banks, insurers, advisors, auditors, suppliers, and financial institutions.
Provide commercial oversight of major projects, equipment purchases, fleet, warehouse operations, and contractor frameworks.
Required Skills & Experience
Minimum 5+ years in senior commercial finance roles (CFO, Head of Finance, Group Financial Controller).
Strong experience in construction, trades, maintenance, or multi-division environments.
Proficient in:
Financial modelling
Cashflow forecasting
Budgeting and scenario planning
Job costing
Multi-entity consolidation
High competence with QuickBooks and job management platforms (ServiceTitan strongly preferred).
Proven experience growing a business beyond $30M+.
Experience with mergers, acquisitions, due diligence, and integration.
Strong leadership experience managing finance teams.
Excellent communication skills; able to translate complex financial concepts for non-financial stakeholders.
ISO experience advantageous but not essential.
CPA or CA qualification required/preferred.
