POSITION: Elementary School Principal – 1.0 FTE
LOCATION: Glencairn Elementary
SALARY: $93,000 – $103,000
WORK YEAR: 11 Month position (214 work days)
START DATE: July 1, 2024
REPORTS TO: Superintendent

General Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent, and in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the East Lansing Public School District, the Elementary School Principal will provide equity-focused leadership with an understanding of best practices to ensure student achievement, while ensuring a safe and effective educational atmosphere. The candidate for this position must be a creative and critical thinker who can effectively lead the Glencairn Professional Learning Community and the decision-making process through the collaboration of staff, students and community.
About the Role
1. Manages building staff, conducts staff meetings, assigns teachers to classrooms and students to classes through the scheduling process.
2. Provides general supervision/discipline to students and supervises extra-curricular activities.
3. Evaluates performance and effectiveness of programs and staff.
4. Actively engages in the IEP process and facilitates the ongoing implementation of the IEP and behavior support plans.
5. Maintains positive relations with parents, parent groups, school volunteers and outside agencies.
6. Participates in and supports the development of district-wide activities, in-services and committees as appropriate.
7. Manages the school budget and works with the Director of Finance on budgeting/purchasing.
8. Establishes priorities to meet the needs of students and teachers through work with the School Improvement Team and collaboration with staff and parents.
9. Engages in district initiatives to foster increased understanding and improved practice around equity and inclusion.
10. Identifies and is engaged in his/her own professional growth in shaping the principal’s professional practice.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Knowledge and Skills Required
12. Possess a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or related field.
13. Possess a valid Michigan School Administrator certificate.
14. Have a broad knowledge and demonstrated leadership experience in an education setting.
15. Display exemplary written and oral communication skills.
16. Knowledge and/or prior experience in restorative practices preferred.
17. Previous elementary administration experience preferred.
18. Possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate and three (3) years of successful teaching experience with elementary emphasis, preferred.
