Role
This Senior Medical Physicist/Deputy RSO position will report to the Chief Medical Physicist/Radiation Safety Officer. This role will actively participate in tasks to enable Monash Health to be compliant with the Radiation Safety Act, relevant legislation, Australian standards and codes of practice and guidance documents relating to Radiation Safety.Key tasks include;
1. Establish, recommend, and oversee procedures and work practices that minimize actual or potential radiation hazards in the department for patients, visitors, and staff across both Nuclear Medicine and Radiology departments.
2. Review, maintain, and contribute to the strategic development of the radiation safety management plan.
3. Ensure equipment operates safely and optimally for patients and staff, and commission new equipment, including testing and administrative procedures.
4. Manage scientific analysis of research data, including preparing presentations and publications.
5. Supervise and provide mentorship to Grade 1, 2 and 3 medical physicists as required. This may involve being the clinical supervisor for physicists enrolled in the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) Training Education and Assessment Program (TEAP).
6. Act as the Deputy Radiation Safety Officer, including standing in for the Radiation Safety Officer when required.
A current Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle are also required as you will be working across a number of Monash Health sites.
About You:
7. An ACPSEM accredited Medical Physics MSc or PhD, or equivalent.
8. Registration on the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) register of Qualified Medical Physics Specialists
9. Hold or be eligible to hold a Victorian Radiation Use Licence
