Specialist Psychologist

South Coast Correctional Centre



Location: South Coast Correctional Centre, South Nowra

Employment type: Ongoing | Full-time or Part-time (job share available)

Salary: $114,016– $139,824pa.

Plus environmental allowance, employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

South Coast Correctional Centre is a large correctional centre in South Nowra, which holds minimum, medium, and maximum security male inmates. Our team has a varied role and provides a range of psychological services, related to management of inmate mental health, risk to self/others, challenging behaviour, and cognitive impairment. We also provide risk assessment and consultation for sex and violent offenders in our centre. In this role, you will support behaviour change and rehabilitation while developing sound skills in psychological assessment, formulation, intervention, and consultation. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of presentations in a multi-disciplinary setting, while being part of a supportive and experienced psychology team.



As a Specialist Psychologist with Corrective Services NSW, you will work with complex and high-risk presentations, applying advanced clinical judgement, assessment strategies, formulations, and intervention strategies to support mental health, risk, and behaviour change, and reduce reoffending.



This role is suited to experienced psychologists who bring depth of expertise and are confident working autonomously while contributing to broader clinical practice in a correctional environment.

What you’ll do

As a Specialist Psychologist, you will:

* Deliver advanced psychological assessments, formulations, and interventions for complex cases, as supported by psychological literature
* Apply high-level, independent clinical judgement in psychological practice, as supported by psychological literature
* Provide expert consultation and advice to stakeholders on mental health, risk management, and behaviour management for complex cases
* Within area of expertise: provide consultation, share knowledge, and support capability uplift across teams
* Contribute to multidisciplinary case management and service delivery
* Contribute to psychological research projects and policy development for the Department as required
* Manage a varied caseload supported by your manager/supervisor and established frameworks
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation
* Attending professional development and networking opportunities including the annual CSNSW Psychology Conference



What we’re looking for

* Full Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
* Postgraduate qualification (Masters or higher) in a relevant field, or equivalent specialist experience
* Demonstrated experience with complex or high-risk clients
* Strong capability across psychological assessment, diagnostic considerations, clinical judgement, formulation, and intervention with complex cases, as supported by psychological literature
* Ability to work both independently, under the supervision of the manager/supervisor, and collaboratively with the psychology and multidisciplinary team
