Bundaberg Sugar is seeking 8 motivated and safety-focused individuals to join our Cane Supply team as a Trainee Locomotive Driver / Maintainer on a permanent full-time basis.
This is a unique opportunity to build a long-term career in rail operations, combining locomotive driving and asset maintenance as integral parts of the role.
About the role
This is a dual-function role supporting both the operation of cane trains during the crushing season and the maintenance and reliability of rail assets throughout the year.
You will undertake a structured 2-year training program, developing the skills and qualifications required to operate locomotives safely and contribute to maintenance activities across the network.
The successful applicant's responsibilities include;
* Participate in structured practical and theoretical training.
* Learn to operate locomotives and associated equipment safely and efficiently.
* Follow railway safe working and operational procedures.
* Communicate effectively with crews, Traffic Office and harvesting teams via radio.
* Develop competency in train handling, route knowledge and emergency procedures.
* Complete required training assessments and competency assessments.
* Undertake maintainer duties, including inspection, servicing and repair of equipment.
* Ensure all equipment is maintained in a safe and operational condition.
About you
* Hold a current Class C Driver's Licence.
* Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety.
* Have an interest in rail operations, mechanical work or heavy industry.
* Willing to undertake or complete a Certificate III in Rail Infrastructure.
* Able to work collaboratively and follow direction.
