What you'll be doing
The DFR Medical Officer is responsible for conducting high-quality medical assessments, including Entry Level Medical Examinations (ELME) and Medical Attestation Examinations (MAE), for candidates applying to join the Australian Defence Force. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you'll review medical histories, test results, and provide expert clinical determinations on medical suitability. The role may be delivered from a Sonic HealthPlus clinic or a Defence Force Recruiting Centre. Your work ensures only medically fit candidates progress, directly contributing to the readiness and strength of Australia's Defence Force.
You will:
* Conduct Entry Level Medical Examinations (ELME) and Medical Attestation Examinations (MAE) for Australian Defence Force (ADF) candidates
* Review and interpret medical histories, test results, and previous reports to determine candidate medical suitability
* Provide clinical determinations on Medical Recruiting Classifications (MRC), Medical Employment Classifications (MEC), and any required restrictions
* Submit and review requests for waivers of medical standards and medical suitability assessments
* Manage and action Class 3R / 3M / 3T candidate reports and follow up on clinical test results
* Collaborate with Medical Screeners, DFR Nurse Officers, Psychology Officers, and Defence personnel in a multidisciplinary team environment
* Ensure accurate and secure maintenance of candidate medical records
* Deliver services from either a Sonic HealthPlus clinic or a Defence Force Recruiting Centre (DFRC)
* Comply with all clinical governance and requirements
* Participate in audits, and regular medical officer meetings
* Support continuous improvement and uphold the values of Sonic HealthPlus and the ADF
About you

Your background will demonstrate:
* Minimum 5 years' post-graduate medical experience in a health system comparable to Australia
* Unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Medical Practitioner
* Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
* Fellowship or working towards Fellowship with AFOEM, RACGP, or similar, or at least 2 years' experience in occupational health or independent medical assessments
* Current CPR certification (HLTAD009)
* Medical indemnity/malpractice insurance with $20 million coverage
* Strong stakeholder relationship and communication skills
* Proven ability to work in diverse, multidisciplinary environments
* Excellent organisational, time management, and computer skills (Word & Excel)
* High integrity and respect for confidentiality
