Career Opportunity: Hydraulic Designer / Senior Hydraulic Designer
We have a full‑time opportunity available for a Hydraulic Designer or Senior Hydraulic Designer to join our Hobart or Launceston offices.
* This role will suit either:
* An experienced Hydraulic Designer looking to further develop their technical capability within a supportive consultancy environment, or
* A Senior Hydraulic Designer seeking greater responsibility, autonomy and involvement in coordinating and mentoring within a multidisciplinary team.
You will work on a broad range of projects and be supported by an experienced team that values practical design, collaboration and professional growth.
Role Responsibilities
Depending on experience, your role will include:
* Undertaking hydraulic design and documentation for water supply, sanitary plumbing and drainage, stormwater systems, trade waste and fire services (as applicable).
* Preparing hydraulic drawings, schematics, calculations and technical documentation in accordance with Australian Standards, NCC and authority requirements.
* Coordinating hydraulic designs with architectural, structural, civil and mechanical documentation.
* Preparing stormwater management plans, detention/retention calculations and related assessments.
* Liaising with councils, water authorities, contractors and consultants to support approvals and coordinated outcomes.
* Participating in site inspections, design coordination meetings and project discussions.
* For senior candidates: reviewing designs prepared by others, providing technical guidance, and supporting or mentoring junior team members.
Skills & Experience
The successful applicant will have:
* Qualifications in Hydraulic Services Design, Building Services, Engineering Technology, Civil or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
* Experience in hydraulic design within a consultancy and/or contractor environment.
* Sound knowledge of the NCC (Volume 3 – Plumbing Code of Australia) and relevant Australian Standards.
* Ability to interpret architectural, structural and civil drawings.
* Experience preparing hydraulic designs, drawings and calculations.
* Strong communication skills and a collaborative, solution-focused approach.
* For Senior Hydraulic Designer candidates, additional experience in leading or independently managing medium-to-complete hydraulic designs and mentoring others will be highly regarded.
