Positive Behaviour Support Specialist
About the Role:
The Positive Behaviour Support Specialist works collaboratively as a part of clients transdisciplinary teams and support networks to support clients in achieving meaningful participation in everyday settings. The role works with clients who demonstrate challenging behaviors which might cause harm to themselves or others, finding solutions to improve quality of life and healthy engagement with others.
Key Responsibilities:
* Complete Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Support Plans for clients to identify the need behind the behavior.
* Provide training with families and support teams to promote positive, effective communication with clients when they experience difficult behaviors.
* Work with the client to identify unmet needs, triggers and strategies to improve their engagement with their experiences.
* Demonstrate a proactive approach to client engagement.
* Maintain accurate clinical records and prepare reports for management and funding bodies.
* Represent the organization at internal and external meetings and events.
* Ensure compliance with privacy, safety, and professional standards.
* Respond to crisis situations under the direction of senior staff.
* Engage in ongoing professional development and supervision.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
* Relevant postgraduate qualification in psychology, counselling, or related field.
* Registration with the relevant governing body, or eligibility to apply. This registration process must be completed before commencement.
* Current Working with Children Blue Card and NDIS Worker Screening Check.
* Current First Aid and CPR certification.
* Full driver's licence and comprehensive vehicle insurance.
* High level of computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
* Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
* Experience working with clients in other disability or support services will be highly valued.
* Empathy, resilience, and a proactive approach to client care.
* Ability to work independently and within a team.
* Commitment to continuous improvement and service excellence.
