Job Title: Tree Crew Worker (Chainsaw & Chipper Operator)
Location: Local Council – Melbourne
Employment Type: Casual (38 hours per week, with potential for full-time permanent positions)
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Tree Crew Worker with demonstrated chainsaw and chipper operation skills to join a Local Council team. Working as part of a dedicated Tree Crew, you will assist with the maintenance, removal and care of street and park trees, ensuring all works are carried out safely, efficiently and in accordance with Council standards and work plans.
This role is ideal for someone with practical arboricultural or tree maintenance experience who is confident operating chainsaws, wood chippers and related equipment in a public environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist the Tree Crew with the maintenance, pruning and removal of street and park trees
* Operate chainsaws, wood chippers and other arboricultural equipment safely and competently
* Support tree planting and site preparation activities where required
* Assist with traffic and site management to ensure public and crew safety
* Operate Council plant, vehicles and tools in line with safe work procedures
* Complete daily plant check sheets, defect reports and basic maintenance of vehicles and equipment
* Respond to customer requests allocated through the Council system
* Provide professional and courteous service to members of the public and internal stakeholders
* Identify hazards, report incidents and strictly adhere to health and safety policies and procedures
* Assist with basic data collection, reporting and administrative requirements
* Provide guidance and support to junior crew members as required
Key Requirements:
* Demonstrated experience operating chainsaws and wood chippers in a professional setting
* Relevant industry qualifications and certifications (including Level 1 Chainsaw Certificate)
* Certificate in Tree Clearing by Non-electrical Personnel (or equivalent)
* Physically fit and capable of undertaking manual outdoor work in varying weather conditions
* Strong commitment to workplace health and safety
* Experience operating plant and equipment in a tree maintenance, arboricultural or horticultural environment
* Current Victorian Driver Licence (essential)
* HR / MR Licence (desirable)
* Ability to work effectively within a team and follow direction
Pre-Employment Requirements:
* Working With Children Check (to be obtained prior to commencement)
* Police Check (to be obtained prior to commencement)
* Valid Australian work rights
