Central Gippsland Health (CGH) is a sub‑regional health service and the major provider of health and aged care services in the Wellington Shire. CGH is located in the City of Sale, 215 km east of Melbourne, and is an ideal access point for the magnificent Gippsland Lakes, 90 Mile Beach and the Victorian Alps.
CGH provides acute care as part of an integrated service delivery model across Wellington Shire and beyond. The service provides beds across three campuses (Sale, Maffra and Heyfield). Acute services include a full‑time emergency department, critical care unit, neonatal critical care unit, three operating theatres, day procedure unit, oncology and dialysis services in addition to general medical and services and sub‑acute services including rehabilitation.
CGH also provides aged care and community services in the Wellington Shire and beyond. We operate four residential aged‑care homes located in Sale, Maffra and Heyfield delivering high‑quality, person‑centred care in supportive and homelike environments.
CGH provides a wide range of community‑based services that support people to remain healthy, active, and independent in their own homes. This includes the provision of Support at Home, Commonwealth Home Support Programs and other in‑home services tailored to individual needs.
Our integrated model of care is supported by a multidisciplinary allied health team offering physiotherapy, dietetics, occupational therapy, speech pathology and social work. We also provide accessible public dental services to enhance community wellbeing.
CGH is also a leading teaching hospital, affiliated with Monash University's School of Rural Health and provides placements and clinical experience for students.

About Department
CGH is a Level 4 Obstetric service with a capability of 34 weeks. CGH has a Level 3 Nursery. The service includes a 24‑hour inpatient and emergency department service. There were approximately 430 births, with an average of 650 general paediatric admissions. ED presentations were 16,600 of which approximately 25% are paediatric. The service operates a community paediatrics clinic 5 days per week and outreach services to Bairnsdale.
The paediatric service has a team of up to 4 specialist paediatricians, 1 paediatric advanced trainee registrar and 1 HMO. The paediatric service has a strong reputation for providing community paediatrics clinics across the region and a referral centre for the Bairnsdale Regional Health service.
About the Role
The Consultant Paediatrician provides specialist paediatric services for the population of Central and East Gippsland and works effectively as part of the Paediatric Unit and within a large multidisciplinary team that provides services across a broad range of acute, emergency, inpatient, outpatient, primary health and community support services. The position may also provide consulting outreach services to East Gippsland.
Classifications for this position will range from classification award for Specialist Year (1‑9) and contracted hours.
Medical Specialists (Victorian Public Health Sector) (AMA Victoria/ASMOF) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2022 – 2026.
About You
Hold a primary medical qualification registrable with the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria. This is a must for any applicants to be considered.
Hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. This is a must for any applicants to be considered. If you have peer review requirements please submit your assessment with your application.
Substantial and proven experience in general paediatric medicine at a senior level and within a community consulting practice and a hospital based setting.
Substantial and proven experience in neonatal resuscitation and neonatology.
