Heavy Diesel Mechanic Role
The position of a heavy diesel mechanic involves working on a variety of tasks, including diagnostics and repairs of heavy trucks and trailers. Key responsibilities include performing dealership-level diagnostic tests and making necessary repairs to ensure the truck is in proper working condition.
Key Responsibilities
* Performing comprehensive inspections and diagnostic tests using OEM equipment such as Volvo Tech Tool and Scania SDP3.
* Conducting electronic fault-finding and repair work on various systems including engines, transmissions, drivelines, steering, air brakes, EBS/ABS, and cooling systems.
* Completing scheduled maintenance checks and repairs on Volvo and Scania trucks, including servicing and testing.
* Service and repair trailer systems: brakes, load-sensing valves, lighting looms, couplings, suspension bushes, and air systems.
* Executing warranty and recall work per OEM guidelines, including accurate documentation and parts requisitions.
* Attending breakdowns and field service on roster when required; performing safe roadside assessments and repair recommendations.
* Upholding safety and compliance standards; following QA checklists and torque procedures.
* Communicating effectively with Service Advisors and customers; providing clear estimates and repair options.
* Supporting team performance by sharing best practices and mentoring apprentices where appropriate.
