Primary objective
Support the development of the Northern Territory pastoral industry by undertaking rangeland research to identify and evaluate pasture and browse species with natural low-methane potential when eaten by cattle. The role will contribute to building a regionally relevant evidence base that strengthens understanding of northern grazing systems and supports future low-emissions feed base innovations.
Key duties and responsibilities
* Coordinate and support the day-to-day the Department's delivery of the Zero Net Emissions-CRC funded Low Methane Feed base project across the Northern Territory.
* Work with regional staff to ensure field sampling strictly follows project sample collection, labelling and preparation protocols, maintaining accurate data collection and traceability of plant material.
* Maintain datasets and support project reporting.
Selection criteria Essential
* Degree in agricultural, rangeland, resource or environmental science from a recognised tertiary institution.
* Demonstrated experience in accurate data collection and precise data management, including confident use of Microsoft Office and digital tools for recording, organising, and validating field and sample data.
* Strong communication skills including experience engaging with land managers, technical officers, and researchers.
* Good knowledge of NT native pasture species and demonstrated ability to apply pasture sampling methods, species identification, and field assessment techniques in NT Rangelands.
* Capacity to undertake frequent and extended fieldwork in remote locations across the Northern Territory.
* Proven ability to work independently and as part of a field team showing initiative and reliability.
* High level of diligence and scientific rigour in field operations supported by strong organisational and effective time management skills.
* Ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
* Current manual driver's license with demonstrated competency in 4WD and ATV operation suitable for off road and remote field work.
Desirable
* Demonstrated experience living or working in rural or remote areas.
