Research Fellow and Project Manager, Biobehavioural Pathways to Bipolar Disorder

* Join a world-class, international research collaboration exploring the brain's role in bipolar disorder
* Academic Level B salary + 17% super and staff benefits

About the Role

Swinburne University of Technology is seeking a skilled and motivated Research Fellow and Project Manager to support an international study funded by the US-based BD² (Breakthrough Discoveries for thriving with Bipolar Disorder). This project, in partnership with the University of California, Berkeley, and University College London, examines how circadian rhythms influence reward system activation in bipolar disorder. The Australian arm is led by Professor Greg Murray and Dr Catherine Orr.

Your responsibilities include managing the Australian site's operations, coordinating participant recruitment, training staff, and overseeing data collection. Participants will undergo evening fMRI scans, followed by two weeks of monitoring using actigraphy and EMA. Approximately 60% of your role will focus on these coordination tasks, which may require work outside regular hours due to evening imaging sessions.

The remaining 40% involves research and professional development, including contributing to academic publications, applying for research funding, and supervising research students. This role offers growth opportunities within an international research network.

Qualifications include a background in mental health research and experience with methods such as fMRI, actigraphy, or EMA. Strong communication skills, research ethics understanding, and experience working with clinical populations are essential. Experience with REDCap, clinical assessments, managing large research studies, and a developing publication record are highly regarded.

About You

You should have experience in:

* Research methods relevant to mental health, especially fMRI, actigraphy, or EMA
* Developing rapport with participants and team members
* Working independently and collaboratively
* Research ethics in clinical populations
* Coordinating large mental health studies
* Clinical assessments and structured interviews
* Data management platforms like REDCap
* Engaging with end-users for recruitment
* Research dissemination through publications or engagement

Qualifications

PhD in psychology or a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.
