The role
Overview

Part‑time (0.95 EFT), Fixed Term (2years) Trainee Clinical Perfusionist position with 72hours per fortnight in the Cardiac Surgery (Perfusion) Department. The role supports training for the Australian and New Zealand Board of Perfusion final certification exams and offers attractive remuneration, including on‑call and overtime allowances. Responsibilities

Operate and manage the heart‑lung machine under the supervision of qualified perfusionists during cardiothoracic surgeries and intensive care settings. Train in the setup and functionality of the heart‑lung bypass machine and manage patients on related equipment, including minimally invasive cardiac surgery. Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to deliver advanced ECMO care, including VA, VV, and eCPR modalities as part of a comprehensive state‑wide ECMO service. Provide safe and effective extracorporeal circulation and cardiopulmonary support services under supervision, including administration of prescribed agents, monitoring equipment, and supporting cardiac surgery procedures. Participate in pre‑operative assessment, patient workup, urgent and after‑hours perfusion coverage, and maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with organisational and legislative requirements. Ensure compliance with Australian Standards, Barwon Health policies, information management requirements, and occupational health and safety procedures, including incident reporting, clinical audits, and risk management activities. Undertake postgraduate perfusion studies and preparation for ANZBP certification examinations while actively participating in continuing education, research, clinical review activities, and service improvement initiatives. Participate in a 24‑hour on‑call perfusion roster. Balance full‑time Masters‑level study with supervised clinical training concurrently. Qualifications

Australian bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Biomedical Science, Medical Science, Biological Science, Clinical Science, Health Science, or Paramedicine with coursework in anatomy, physiology, physics, and chemistry. Weighted Average Mark of at least 60. Ability to balance full‑time Masters‑level study with supervised clinical training. Strong organisational skills, self‑discipline, and the ability to manage competing demands. Benefits
